WHY DID WE NEED TO ESTABLISH MAAN?
The Negev Arab Bedouin woman is caught between a rock and a hard place: government policy and the strict rules of culture of Arab Bedouin society. As a Palestinian minority in Israel, the Negev Arab Bedouin woman is not afforded even the most basic human rights. Violation of rights is doubled because of the their place in a Patriarchal society, in which polygamy and violence within a family are common phenomena. Often, there is no consideration for the needs of women either by state or by society. Many women see this attitude towards them as a natural and inevitable part of their fate and are not aware that they have statutory rights that protect them.
Local women's organizations that focused on promoting the status of Arab Bedouin women began to develop During the '90s. These organizations understand that women are better able to promote women's rights and issues in the Arab Bedouin society if they band together around common goals.
It is estimated that 35% up to 40%of all Arab Bedouin marriages are polygamous. Nearly 60% of the Arab Bedouin population is under 18. In addition, the community of recognized and unrecognized villages suffers the highest unemployment rates in the country a rate of 90%.

المرأة العربية في النقب تقع بين مطرقة سياسات الحكومات وسندان العادات والأعراف الصارمة في المجتمع البدوي: كونها تنتمي للأقلية الفلسطينية في دولة اسرائيل تُحرم المرأة العربية في النقب من حقوقها وأحيانا حتى من أبسط الحقوق. ان انتهاك حقوقها مضاعفة كونها تنتمي لمجتمع ذكوري وتقليدي تتفشى فيه وبشكل خاص ظاهرتي تعدد الزوجات والعنف ضد النساء بل وتحظى تلك الظواهر وأخرى بالشرعية من قبل شرائح واسعة في المجتمع. في كثير من الأحيان يتجاهل المجتمع والدولة احتياجات المرأة ورغباتها وحقوقها. وعادة ما تتعامل المرأة البدوية مع الوضع القائم على أنه أمر محتم وطبيعي وجزء من قدرها ودورها في الحياة، وتجهل وجود القوانين القادرة على ضمان حقوقها
خلال التسعينات بدأت تظهر المبادرات النسائية وتأسست أولى الجمعيات المحلية التي اهتمت في تطوير الخدمات الخاصة بالنساء والأسرة في قراهن. مع مضي الوقت أدركن النساء الناشطات في تلك التنظيمات بانه من أجل تطوير حقوق ومكانة المرأة لا بد من حشد الطاقات والاتحاد سوية حول أهداف مشتركة لاحداث التغيير المنشود
تشير التقديرات ألى أن 35% حتى 40%من الزيجات في النقب تشمل حالات تعدد الزوجات. كذلك 60% من الأهالي في النقب هم دون جيل الثامنة عشر. في القرى الغير معترف بها تصل البطالة ألى %90

Our work is based on a humanistic conception of human rights and dignity based on various international conventions and documents.

OUR GOALS
• Empowerment of Arab Bedouin society in the Negev in all its forms and particularly women's organizations in order to remove the barriers facing social establishments promoting an Arab Bedouin woman in the Negev.
• Enhancing the forum from the perspective of human rights and feminism in Arab Bedouin women's organizations in the Negev.
• Treatment of complex and sensitive social issues for which there is no treatment at the local level.
• Create a local female leadership capable of creating social change.
• Training of women in various professional fields.

التعامل مع قضايا معقدة وحساسة اجتماعيا استصعب التعامل معها حتى اليوم على الصعيد المحلي.
خلق قاعدة لقيادة محلية نسائية لتقود عملية التغيير الاجتماعي.
تأهيل كوادر نسائية في مجالات مختلفة.
